California futurity season starting

The 13 trials to the Grade 1, $350,000-estimated Kindergarten on Saturday night at Los Alamitos start the California futurity season, which includes three futurities with $1 million purses, capped by the $2 million Los Alamitos Two Million in December.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from the 105 trial entrants Friday will return for the Kindergarten on May 19.

Cash This Okie comes into the trials with the season's fastest 300-yard time by a juvenile at Los Alamitos. He won a maiden race by a length in 15.40 seconds, aided by a 19 mph tailwind.

Robbins ready for Lassie

Trainer Ray Robbins's juvenile fillies My Special Sneakers and My Heart Sez Yes were both more than 20-1 in their trials to the Grade 2, $210,000 Louisiana Breeders Lassie Futurity, but will be shorter prices in Saturday's 330-yard futurity after they raced to the second- and fourth-fastest qualifying times in those trials.

My Special Sneakers won her career debut in the trials with a half-length win at 24-1. Her time of 17.705 seconds for the 330 yards was the fastest time from 10 trials.

My Heart Sez Yes was a 22-1 longshot in her trials, and her second-place effort in 17.118 seconds was the fourth-fastest time behind fastest-qualifier Cute N Shiny, who was timed in 16.976 seconds winning their trial.
