California alters bet requirements

The California Horse Racing Board has reduced the minimum number of wagering interests required for superfectas and trifectas.

Effective Thursday, fields must have six betting interests for superfectas, down from eight, while fields must have four betting interests for trifecta betting, down from six.

The rule change was initiated through a directive from the racing board, following the adoption of rule changes at the racing board's monthly meeting in June.

In a state plagued by short fields at times, the rule changes will allow tracks to offer a wider

variety of bets on more races.
