Calder resumes racing after Thursday fire

Calder resumed racing as scheduled on Friday after being forced to cancel the final five races of its Thursday card due to a small electrical fire in the TV control module. The fire disrupted the track's ability to simulcast the races and to provide video of the races to the stewards.

Churchill Downs Simulcast Prodcutions and "our facilities team have worked very hard to remedy the problem to get us back up and running today," said Michelle Blanco, director of advertising and public relations at Calder. "We appreciate the patience and understanding of all our guests and horsemen who may have been temporarily inconvenienced on Thursday."

The fire was discovered at 2:50 p.m. on Thursday and was immediately extinguished. The decision to cancel the remainder of the program came approximately 30 minutes later. Nobody was injured as a result of the fire and simulcasting continued without incident at Calder for the remainder of the afternoon.
