Calder to offer 10-cent Mega 6 bet with 19% takeout

Email

MIAMI – Calder Racecourse will offer pick-six wager with a low takeout of 19 percent beginning Friday.

The new wager, called the Mega 6, is a 10-cent wager that will encompass the last six races of each racing card offered during both the Calder and Tropical at Calder meetings, which run through Nov. 30.  The bet is identical to the Rainbow 6, which proved to be a success during each of the past two Gulfstream Park meetings. The jackpot is paid out only if a single winning combination exists.

“We expect the Mega 6 to attract interest among typical lottery players, while offering serious horseplayers an opportunity for big rewards,” said John Marshall, the track’s vice president and general manager of racing. “And the Mega 6 joins the Calder pick five, with its industry low takeout of 12 percent, to offer the best value on the wagering dollar of any pick five or pick six in horse racing.”

There will be two mandatory payouts for the Calder Mega 6, on Friday, Aug. 31, closing day of the Calder meet; and Nov. 30, closing day of the Tropical meet.

The headline and lede says takeout of 19%, but the quote from John Marshall says the takeout is 12%.
