MIAMI, Fla. - Mister Fotis wasn't expected to set the pace in Saturday's $100,000 Unbridled Stakes at Calder. But once he got loose on the lead, he was not about to relinquish his advantage, splashing to a one-length victory over Nightmare Affair in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds.

Bob's Proud Moment figured to make the early pace in the Unbridled, but when he broke poorly from post position one, jockey Gary Boulanger seized the opportunity to put Mister Fotis on the lead. Mister Fotis set moderate fractions, turned back a bid from even-money favorite Caballero Negro in early stretch, then withstood a final surge along the rail from Nightmare Affair.

Caballero Negro tired in the final furlong and finished third, another 1 3/4 lengths behind Nightmare Affair.

Making his first start since being transferred to trainer Marty Wolfson's barn earlier this month, Mister Fotis returned $20.20 after covering the distance in 1:48.46 seconds over a sloppy track. The victory was just the second in six starts for Mister Fotis.
