Dantrelle Lightn wins the $60,000 GTOBA Juvenile Turf Fillies Stakes at Calder on Saturday.

Dantrelle Light, taking advantage of her high speed and inside post, led throughout to register a 2 3/4-length victory over Sophisticatedevent in the $60,000 GTOBA Juvenile Turf Fillies Stakes at Calder. The GTOBA is restricted to 2-year-old fillies who are progeny of the Georgia Thoroughbred Owners and Breeder Association nominated stallions.

Dantrelle Light, a daughter of Colony Light and Rainbow Fame, broke alertly from post 1 under jockey Eduardo Nunez and quickly sped to command along the inside hedge. She shook off early challenges from Adjusting and Appealing Runner, settled into the stretch with a comfortable advantage, and was not threatened thereafter despite drifting steadily through the final furlong.

Sophisticatedevent, unhurried early, finished best of all to be second, more than three lengths in front of Shopping Girl, who did well to be third after taking up sharply on the turn. Lucky Too, the tepid 5-2 favorite in the field of 11, finished a tiring sixth.

The race was marred when My Friend Bren had to be euthanized after breaking down on the far turn.

Dantrelle Light paid $8.80 after covering five furlongs in 59.24 seconds over a good course.

"We knew she liked the turf after she worked a half in 47-and-change on it," said David Brownlee, who trains Dantrelle Light for the J D Farms. "She'll run on anything, and there are a lot of options for her."
