Calder: Cheri Ami overwhelms

Cheri Ami led throughout to register a dominating 10-length victory over the 4-5 favorite, Adhrhythm, in the $50,000 Harmony Lodge Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Calder.

Cheri Ami quickly sprinted to an easy lead from her inside post, came out into what appeared to be the better footing entering the stretch and readily drew off under jockey Carlos Olivero. Her performance spoiled the return of Adhrhythm, who dominated her division here last year but was making her first start since finishing far back in the Three Ring Stakes on Dec. 2. Sweet Exchange finished third, followed by Bianco and Saint Barbara.

The win was the third in five starts and first stakes success for Cheri Ami who is trained by Larry Bates for the Wirth Brothers. She ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:19.16 and returned $14.40.

In the $50,000 Reappeal Stakes, Lord Robyn continued to show his fondness for the local turf course, drawing off to a three-length decision over the pacesetting Not Acclaim.

Lord Robyn, who came into the race with 6 wins in 13 previous starts over the Calder grass strip, stalked the leader from the outset, took command on the final turn, and gradually edged away under jockey Manuel Aguilar. Not Acclaim proved no match for the winner but held on to finish second by a length over Nacascolo. Mr. Silver, the 2-1 favorite, raced well placed along the hedge but had no rally and was a disappointing fifth.

Lord Robyn, who won the Blazing Sword Stakes here last June, is trained by David Fawkes. He covered five furlongs in 55.10 seconds over a firm course and returned $8.80.
