Calder: Cellars Shiraz prevails

Cellars Shiraz, sent off at 2-5, gave her backers some anxious moments when stumbled at the start of the $50,000 Convenience Stakes at Calder. But under Cornelio Velasquez, Cellars Shiraz gathered herself to stalk the pace, took the lead on the far turn, and won the 1 1/16-mile turf race by 1 1/2 lengths.

Company B finished second in the field of eight 3-year-old fillies, with Cagey Move third.

Cellars Shiraz, trained by Bill Cesare, completed the distance in 1:42.79 and paid $2.80.
