Black Diamond Cat, under Juan Leyva, nips Accredit by a nose in the off-the-turf Bob Umphrey.

Black Diamond Cat and Accredit, a pair of sprinters who were winless on turf, capitalized when Monday’s $75,000 Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint was transferred from grass to Calder’s main track to run one-two, triggering a $1,018 trifecta for a $2 wager.

The 4-year-old Black Diamond Cat ($21.40) ran down pacesetter Accredit by a nose while completing five furlongs on a fast track in 58.55 seconds.

How’s Your Halo, a 22-1 outsider who was 0 for 7 on turf but in the money in 21 of 32 starts on fast dirt, completed the trifecta by finishing two lengths in front of You Luckie Mann, the 2-1 favorite in a field reduced to eight by three scratches.

It was the second straight win in dirt sprints for Black Diamond Cat, who was ridden by Juan Leyva for trainer Larry Bates.
