Calder: Amen Kitten wins Tropical Park Derby

Amen Kitten (No. 4) wins the Tropical Park Derby by a head with Juan Delgado aboard.

MIAMI – Amen Kitten ($4.40) rallied up the rail under replacement rider Juan Delgado to outfinish Midnight Cello by a head and register a popular victory in the $70,000 Tropical Park Derby at Calder on Saturday. Grand Tito finished third.

Amen Kitten is trained by Wesley Ward for owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey. His sire, Kitten’s Joy, won the race 10 years ago.

Later on the card, E B Ryder overcame a slow start and finished full of run down the center of the course to register a 1 1/2-length victory over the 27-1 Triple Arch in the $70,000 Frances A. Genter Stakes. Dreaming of Sophia, the 3-5 favorite, finished third.

E B Ryder paid $23.80 after running a mile over a firm turf course in 1:36.50 with jockey Jilver Chamafi aboard.
