'Cahill' has speed, rail and talent

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Mighty Cahill and Arizona Drifter stand out in the feature race at Hastings Sunday. Mighty Cahill will likely be the favorite in the 6 1/2-furlong allowance race for 2-year-olds that haven't won a stakes.

Mighty Cahill, who is trained by Harold Barroby, showed a lot of potential when he debuted in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race Sept. 5. With leading rider Justin Stein aboard, Mighty Cahill went right to the front and drew off to win by 11 1/4 lengths over Jack Diamond Futurity winner Sungold Wonder.

A Washington-bred, Mighty Cahill couldn't keep up with a very quick Feu Express in an optional $50,000 sprint in his next start, but he ran a solid second behind Regal Request when

he stretched out in the Ascot Graduation Oct. 23. He had a sharp five-furlong move in 59.60 Nov. 6 and looks primed for another strong effort.

With Stein riding in Woodbine this week, Jake Barton will take over as Mighty Cahill's rider. Mighty Cahill drew the rail and Barton will likely have him involved early.

Arizona Drifter is the only horse in the field with more than one win. Trained by Lance Giesbrecht, Arizona Drifter was a very easy winner over Noble Shogun in an optional $25,000 sprint Oct. 22. It was his second win, and he's also been stakes placed with a third in the CTHS Sales Stakes.
