Bug Juice, ridden by John Davila Jr., shot to the front at the start of Monday’s $128,975 Aspirant Stakes for New York-bred 2-year-olds at Finger Lakes and cruised to a seven-length victory.
Making his first start since winning his maiden while racing on Lasix for the first time on Aug. 1 at Saratoga, Bug Juice set fractions of 22.20 and 45.48 seconds while under pressure from Dream Drop Kid. A son of Mingun trained by Bruce Levine, Bug Juice opened up by three lengths entering the stretch and widened his margin while completing the six furlongs in 1:10.40.
Pin Number, the coupled stablemate of Dream Drop Kid, overcame a stumble at the start to rally from sixth to get second, 1 1/4 lengths in front of the Todd Pletcher-trained Hysterical Cat, the 3-5 favorite.
In the co-featured $139,225 Lady Finger for 2-year-old fillies, second-time starter Lady Vi ($28), the second longest shot among six runners, scored by 1 1/4 lengths over Letshootpool. It was another 1 3/4 lengths back to Funky Munky Mama, the pacesetter and 3-5 favorite.
Lady Vi, ridden by Pedro Rodriguez for trainer Phil Serpe, raced greenly and steadied twice during her debut on Aug. 29 at Saratoga, a race in which she finished second. This time, she sat in third and made up a two-length deficit in the final furlong to completer the six furlongs in 1:12.91.

Against 3-5 Gulfstream shipper Panthro first time out, PEARL OF WISDOM was bumped at the break and finished well enough to wind up just 1 1/2 lengths back of runner-up; colt by Wood winner Bob and John is among the horses Flying Zee held onto, and stretches out from rail in maiden special that lacks speed. ZETTERHOLM rallied wide and went clear for second to odds-on Readytodefer in first local start off a private purchase; switches from double bug to dual Eclipse winner.
