Bud Baedeker, handicapper, dies

Bud Baedeker, a longtime California handicapper and pioneer in the tip sheet business, died Saturday in New York City. He was 90.

Baedeker launched the handicapping tip sheet Baedeker's Guide in 1938, and it remains in business.

He is survived is survived by two sons, Bob Baedeker, a handicapper and racing commentator who operates the Baedeker Guide, and Rick Baedeker, president of Hollywood Park; a daughter, Kathy; and his wife, Helen.

A graveside memorial is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: In the Arms of Mary Foundation, P.O. Box 6787, Ventura, CA. 93006.
