Brownlee duo towers over seven rivals

MIAMI - Trainer David Brownlee will double-team the opposition in Saturday's $75,000 Nancy's Glitter Handicap at Calder, which is run at 1 1/16 miles. Brownlee will send out his talented filly and mare tandem of Secret Request and Dakota Light against seven rivals, including Pampered Princess and Firm Reality.

Individually, Secret Request and Dakota Light would be dangerous in the Nancy's Glitter. Together, they form a potent team that has combined to win three stakes this season, including Secret Request's shocking victory over Smok'n Frolic in the Sunshine Millions Distaff at Gulfstream Park. Coming into this race, their combined career earnings of $784,000 is nearly as much as the combined earnings of their seven foes.

Secret Request is the stronger of the Brownlee duo. She added the overnight Cut the Charm Stakes to her ever-growing r?sum? of stakes successes, but is looking to rebound off a three-quarter-length defeat to Firm Reality in the Draw In Stakes on June 27, when she was a 4-5 favorite. A daughter of Jules, Secret Request will break from the rail under jockey Aurelio Toribio.

Dakota Light has been the victim of unlucky trips in each of her last two starts, but overcame trouble to defeat Firm Reality and Romanesque, another member of the Nancy's Glitter lineup, in the Coolbythepool Stakes June 11. The victory was the first this season for Dakota Light, who will begin just outside Secret Request in post 2 with M.R. Cruz in the saddle.

Pampered Princess has wins over Secret Request and Dakota Light and will go off as the highweight under 120 pounds in the Nancy's Glitter. A 4-year-old daughter of Indian Charlie, Pampered Princess comes in off a 3 3/4-length victory in a slightly softer field in the Solo Haina Stakes, her third decision in six starts this season. She will again be prominent from the outset, breaking from post 3 with regular rider Eddie Castro aboard.

Firm Reality exits the best race of her career, in which she reasserted herself after relinquishing the lead to Secret Request at midstretch to win the Draw In.

Gentille Alouette finished a distant fourth in the Draw In after upsetting Pampered Princess five weeks earlier in the Boots N Jackie Stakes.
