Brown clinches first spring-summer title

ELMONT, N.Y. – With entries closed through the end of the meet on Sunday, Chad Brown will win his first Belmont spring-summer meet training title.

Brown entered the final five days of the meet with 37 wins, 13 more than Todd Pletcher, who does not have that many entries over the last week. Brown has won the last four Belmont fall-meet titles.

“It’s been a great meet,” Brown said. “We had a lot of horses sitting on go. A lot of them ran well. Once again, my staff did a terrific job. It’s nice to win our first Belmont spring-summer meet. This is really our home base of operations for the entire stable, when you think about it, year-round. It’s nice to win this and go to Saratoga with some good momentum.”

Brown, a native of Mechanicville, N.Y., will be seeking his first Saratoga training title. He has finished second to Pletcher the last five years. Last year, Brown had a personal-best Saratoga meet with 31 wins.
