Apprentice Ashley Broussard completed a sweep of the weekend stakes at Delta Downs on Saturday night when she guided Deep Bottom to a front-running win in the $65,000 B-Connected. Broussard took Friday night’s $65,000 Lookout with Oh Baby Oh Baby.

The B-Connected was for 3-year-olds and up bred in Louisiana. It was restricted to horses who had never won a stakes race.

Deep Bottom ($8.40) moved to the lead soon after the start of the 7 1/2-furlong race run around two turns, and was up by a couple of lengths through an opening quarter in 23.99 seconds. Deep Bottom increased his advantage to four lengths through a half-mile in 48.48 seconds and went on to a 4 3/4length win over Galveston Harbor. Deep Harbor covered the distance on a fast track in 1:33.48.

Keith Bourgeois trains Deep Bottom for Thomas Holyfield. The win was the second straight on the card for Bourgeois and Holyfield, and the third straight for Broussard. Broussard’s other winners came in the sixth with Rooster Bullet ($3.60) and the seventh with 13-length hero Annoy ($9.80).

Deep Bottom is a son of Lone Star Special and was bred by Tigertail Ranch, the owner of favorite and runner-up Galveston Harbor.
