ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Brooklynsway captured the $250,400 Princess Elizabeth Stakes in a professional manner under Emma-Jane Wilson on Sunday at Woodbine. London Tower, the 6-5 favorite, set honest fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route for Canadian-bred 2-year-old fillies. Brooklynsway awaited room along the inside on the far turn and was angled off the rail early in the stretch before closing between London Tower and a charging Shez a Masterpiece en route to a one-length win in 1:44.35. Shez a Masterpiece secured second by three-quarters of a length over London Tower, who was ridden by Wilson when she won her only start impressively. “I had my eye on [London Tower] the whole way to make sure she didn’t get away from us,” Wilson said. “She’s a nice filly. I thought ‘Brooklyn’ was a little better for the day, and she proved me right. When I was sitting in behind, traveling as easy as I was, she gave me a nice turn of foot when I pulled the trigger.” Brooklynsway ($12) banked $150,000 in her second stakes victory for owner-trainer John Ross, who sent out Lexie Lou to finish second in last year’s Princess Elizabeth.
