Bring your Ouija board for this one

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Extra sensory perception might be needed to pick the winner of the feature race at Hastings Park Sunday, a $15,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds going 1 1/16 miles.

All seven horses look like they have a shot at the win, and it's hard to separate the horses moving up off of sharp wins and the ones coming down after dull efforts.

Only one horse has won at the distance, Alybro's Bold, but he was all out to beat $11,000 maidens July 21 and will have his hands full facing open company for the first time. He appears to be getting better with each race, though, and showed dramatic improvement when he stretched out to 1 1/16 miles in his last start. He's trained by Daniel Leung and will be ridden by Anthony Stephen.

Full Gainer won the New Westminster Stakes as a juvenile, but when it was obvious that he wasn't going to contend in the stakes division this year, he was dropped in for $15,000, won, and was claimed by trainer Lance Giesbrecht June 15. He ran up the track against better in a race won by the very tough Deas Island June 30 and should appreciate the move back to this level. In his only race going this far, he finished a well-beaten eighth in the Ascot Graduation last year.

Full Gainer does have the best Tomlinson number for the distance, 380, and has worked well leading up to this race. Chris Loseth rides.

Dubious Command, Rocky Storm, Vino Vita, and Rocking B are all stretching out to this distance for the first time.
