Bright Town get her stakes win in El Diario

Alfredo Juarez Jr. guides Bright Town to a three-length score in the El Diario on Saturday.

Bright Town became a stakes winner on Saturday, when she led throughout to capture the $50,000 El Diario Handicap at Sunland Park. She won by three lengths over Popalicious, while it was another 3 1/2 lengths back into third to African Rose.

Cassy Sue, who brought an eight-race win streak into the El Diario, was scratched.

Bright Town ($8.40) set fractions of 22.26 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.59 for the half-mile before going on to cover 6 1/2 furlongs on a track rated fast in 1:15.33.

Alfredo Juarez Jr. was aboard for Tricar Stables and trainer Sal Gonzalez.

Bright Town has now won 4 of 13 starts and $95,338. She is a 5-year-old by Speightstown and she was bred in Kentucky by Lochlow Farm.
