Brennan stable after heart attack

Trainer Terry Brennan had a slight heart attack during training hours Thursday at Louisiana Downs, and was recuperating at a Bossier City, La., hospital on Friday. He may be released as early as Saturday, said his wife, Loretta Brennan.

"He's doing well," she said. "He's in good spirits."

Brennan, 53, was watching his stable train on Thursday when he began having some chest pains and drove himself to a nearby hospital, according to Loretta Brennan. He was to undergo an angioplasty on Friday.

Physically, this has been a trying year for Terry Brennan. In February, he was hit by a car while crossing the street in front of Oaklawn Park. In May, his father, retired trainer Jean Brennan, had a heart attack. Jean Brennan has since recovered, and Terry Brennan has gone on to have an excellent meet at Louisiana Downs.

He ranks as the highest win-percentage trainer among the meet leaders, having won with 13 of 33 starters (39 percent) through Thursday.
