. Woodbine, , Maiden Special, 7 Furlongs This is a tough spot for a firster, but Preakness Laugher is worth a look here. He comes out of a weak sale, OBSJUN, but he did show a solid three-over-Par, Group 1 BreezeFig with a nearly 24 foot stride--at a quarter mile, which we like. He is not listed as coming out of any sale in the PP's, but he was taken back home by his breeder as a 55k RNA (see the reference to this above). He looks to be a bit better, perhaps, than Storm Street, who had a good first outing and comes out of the slightly stronger OBSAPR sale with a better BreezeFig (seven over Par, Group 1) but a foot shorter stride length. Look these two over for gimmick plays. Monmouth Park, , Stake, 6 Furlongs This stake is restricted to colts that were catalogued in a 2-year-old sale this year, so a couple of them may have been scratched from the sale before they breezed. Still, there are two interesting colts in a field filled with maidens. Why would John Kimmel enter Caymus Capote, a first-timer, here? Well, though he threw what appears to be a modest even Par, Group 2 BreezeFig at OBSFEB, that's a very strong sale and he showed a 24.39 foot stride length at 1/8 of a mile that day--this one is worth a look if he starts. If he's scratched, or even if he's still in there, you might want to couple him with Reata's Rocket, who has already won and shown that his 25 foot stride length at the EASMAY sale was no fluke.
