BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, June 30th

Today's BreezeFigs card (June 30th) is the last one that will include horses from last year's 2-Y-O sales, so there will be no more 3-Y-O maiden races to handicap from this point forward--hey, if they haven't won by now, pass the race. Starting tomorrow (July 1st), all BreezeFigs horses will have come out of the 2007 2-Y-O sales.

How's 2-Y-O BreezeFigs form going so far? Well, if you'd had Thursday's BreezeFigs card, you would have spotted two great first-timer overlays--I Promise at Belmont ($26.80), and Skipper's Yacht at Calder ($25). Both were well qualified--and both had longer-than-average stride lengths (SL) right there on the card.

Remember, keep stride length (SL) in mind when handicapping from the BreezeFigs sheet and take advantage of all the tips that we provide--you can get a good idea by clicking on BreezeFigs Information underneath the two BreezeFigs links in the DRF-PLUS box in the right hand column on the home page and downloading files there.

This week, we'll give you one last 3-Y-O maiden and what look like two key 2-Y-O maiden races. Good luck!

Belmont Park, , 2-Y-O Maiden Special, 5 Furlongs

OK, everyone's going to jump on The Leopard, Pletcher's $2.5 million Storm Cat here, and well they might, because he was awfully impressive at the FTFFEB sale, posting a 24-foot-plus SL. However, there are three others in this race with very similar BreezeFigs and SL's, and they are worth every single dime of consideration you have to spend--Golden Tablet, Fed Watcher, and Nor'easter. This is an exceptional maiden race, and it looks to us that Golden Tablet is the real danger here--he had a longer SL at a shorter distance at the same sale as The Leopard. But it will be close, so watch the board and pray for a good start.

Hollywood Park, , 2-Y-O Maiden Special, 5 1/2 Furlongs

This race has eight BreezeFigs colts in it, five of them coming out of BARMAR, two of which were Group 1 horses with superior SL's. We tend to think Drill Down, a smooth mover with a 25.43 foot SL, might have an edge here, but if so it's a short one over Indian Sun and Golden Gorilla, each of which posted a slightly higher BreezeFig at that sale. Many Rivers also looks like he might be able to sneak into the gimmicks, but in any case, this race is full of potential stars, and how they look in the paddock, and on the board, should help you sort the top four out.

Hollywood Park, , 3 & Up Maiden Special, 6 1/2 Furlongs

Four BreezeFigs horses come into this race, two of which have decent first starts, and another an intriguing firster. We give consideration to the likely favorite, Jen's New Chapter, based on her solid Group 1 performance at BARMAR last year and her first start, but she was a little under average on the SL, as was Kula Girl, who ran well in her debut but had a slightly shorter than average SL at last year's OBSAPR sale. The wild card here is Policy of Truth, who had a very good and well above average 24.14 foot SL at FTFFEB last year, but did not sell (RNA) for 280k (which you will not know from the PP's, but get on BreezeFigs.) She's in clever hands, has been working steadily for her debut, and looks like a nice play here.
