Breeders' Cup: Twelve foreign-based contenders arrive from Europe; more coming Monday


ARCADIA, Calif. – A group of 12 foreign-based runners for Breeders’ Cup races at Santa Anita next weekend arrived in Southern California on Saturday.

The runners – 11 Thoroughbreds and one Arabian – remained in quarantine Sunday.

Three Thoroughbreds will clear quarantine in time to train Monday – Outstrip (a candidate for the Juvenile Turf), Vorda (Juvenile Fillies Turf), and Romantica (Filly and Mare Turf). The Arabian No Problem Al Maury will train Monday for Friday’s $150,000 President of the United Arab Emirates Cup. They arrived on a flight early Saturday.

Later on Saturday, London Bridge (Marathon), Al Thakhira, and Chriselliam (Juvenile Fillies Turf), Shamshon (Juvenile Turf), Dank (Filly and Mare Turf), The Fugue (Turf), Olympic Glory (Mile), and Planteur (Classic) arrived. They are expected to begin training Tuesday.

A final flight of five European horses trained by Aidan O’Brien is scheduled to arrive Monday. The O’Brien team is Giovanni Boldini and Wilshire Boulevard (Juvenile Turf), Cristoforo Columbo (Mile), Magician (Turf), and Declaration of War (Classic).
