Breeders' Cup Limited has announced the sites for the World Thoroughbred Championships through 2005, a rotation that will include first-time hosts Arlington Park and Lone Star Park.

Breeders' Cup has conditionally selected Arlington Park to host the 2002 World Thoroughbred Championships, followed by Santa Anita Park in 2003, Churchill Downs in 2004 and Lone Star Park in 2005.

Track selection is contingent upon finalized contracts between Breeders' Cup Limited and the host sites, availability of appropriate racing days, adequate state and community support for the event and the satisfactory resolution of issues relative to the operation and staging of the World Thoroughbred Championships.

"Everyone should remember, however, that a significant number of issues must be resolved before the selection of any of these sites can be considered final," said D.G. Van Clief Jr., president of Breeders' Cup Limited.

The 2001 World Thoroughbred Championships will be held Oct. 27 at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.
