Breeders' Cup partners with Gold Derby for contest on Classic


Breeders’ Cup has entered into an agreement with a website specializing in predicting the winners of awards ceremonies such as the Emmys and Oscars to promote its 2013 event, scheduled for Nov. 1-2 at Santa Anita Park in Southern California.

The partnership with Gold Derby, a company based in Hollywood, will feature a contest allowing participants to select three horses to finish first, second, and third in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the last race of the Breeders’ Cup event. The winner of the contest will receive “VIP tickets” to next year’s event, also at Santa Anita, the Breeders’ Cup said, and a $10,000 payment to the charity of the winner’s choice.

Gold Derby’s website includes expert opinions on who will win awards at a number of pop-culture events, and it allows fans to provide their own rankings in comparison. A similar feature will be available on the site for the Classic, the two companies said.
