Royal Delta, training on Sunday at Churchill Downs, was made the second choice in the Breeders' Cup Ladies’ Classic.

A showdown for the Eclipse Award for champion 3-year-old filly could be on the line Friday at Churchill Downs in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, which drew a field of 10 on Monday, with the three 3-year-olds in the race the first three choices despite facing their elders.

Plum Pretty, winner of the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs in the spring, is returning to the scene of her greatest victory. She landed post 8 in the field of 10 for the 1 1/8-mile race and is favored by both Brad Free of Daily Racing Form, who has her at 8-5, and Mike Battaglia, the linemaker at Churchill Downs, who has her at 2-1.

Both Free and Battaglia have Royal Delta, the Alabama Stakes winner, as the 5-2 second choice. She wound up in post 6.

It’s Tricky, who defeated both Plum Pretty and Royal Delta in the Coaching Club American Oaks, is the third choice at 4-1 on Free’s line and is 5-1 on Battaglia’s line.

Ask the Moon, a two-time Grade 1 winner at Saratoga, and Ultra Blend, a Grade 1 winner from California, are the best of the older fillies and mares in the race.

Ultra Blend is dealing with a minor injury. She nicked the back of her right front hoof and had gauze wrapped around it while in her stall Monday morning, but Alan Sherman, the son of and assistant to trainer Art Sherman, said it did not involve the hoof wall, which might have led to a quarter crack.

“It’s up high,” Sherman said. “It’s not serious.”

A field of nine was expected for the Ladies’ Classic, but the connections of the longshot Medaglia d’Amour decided to run in this race rather than the Filly and Mare Turf.

The Ladies’ Classic is the last of six Breeders’ Cup races to be run Friday.

The field, from the rail out, is Miss Match (Garrett Gomez the rider), Pachattack (Rajiv Maragh), It’s Tricky (Ramon Dominguez), Satans Quick Chick (Edgar Prado), Ask the Moon (Javier Castellano), Royal Delta (Jose Lezcano), Ultra Blend (David Flores), Plum Pretty (Rafael Bejarano), Medaglia d’Amour (Patrick Valenzuela), and Super Espresso (John Velazquez).
