Breeders' Cup: Flintshire, Winsili skipping event

Email

ARCADIA, Calif. – The European Group 1 winners Flintshire and Winsili will not start in Breeders’ Cup races Nov. 2, the racing manager of Juddmonte Farms said in an e-mail Saturday.

Teddy Grimthorpe did not indicate a reason, saying they would not be traveling to California. Flintshire was a candidate for the $3 million BC Turf, while Winsili was being considered for the $2 million BC Filly and Mare Turf.

Flintshire, trained by Andre Fabre, won the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris for 3-year-olds at Longchamp in July but was eighth of 17 in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Oct. 6.

Winsili, trained by John Gosden, won the Group 1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood, England, on Aug. 3. Winsili has not started since.
