Dance to Bristol breezed five furlongs in 58.60 seconds Friday for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.

Dance to Bristol, the pride of the Bowie training center in Maryland, had her final workout toward the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint when speeding five furlongs Friday in 58.60 seconds.

With trainer Ollie Figgins III watching, Xavier Perez, who has ridden Dance to Bristol in her last eight races – winning all but the most recent one – was aboard for the drill. The 4-year-old Speightstown filly was scheduled to be flown Saturday to California.

“I generally don’t like to let her rock that much,” Figgins told the Maryland Jockey Club, adding that he wanted a stern work before the filly runs in the biggest race of her life.

Perez, a 25-year-old native of Puerto Rico, has never ridden in a Breeders’ Cup event.

“It is an unbelievable feeling to know that I am going into the race with a horse that has a shot to win the race,” he said.

Dance to Bristol, owned by Susan Wantz, has a remarkable record of 10 wins and 8 seconds from 19 career starts. She figures as one of the favorites in the seven-furlong Filly and Mare Sprint behind Groupie Doll, the defending champion who was scheduled to have her final prerace drill Saturday at Santa Anita. Thirteen are pre-entered.

Bowie is a course that should be remembered for all time .Recall many a horseplayer going there via car, train or bus ;when ny was pre- winter racing . One of the best sprinters of ever Daves Friend raced there !t used to be a very good place to leg up a horse -given the deepish nature of the track . am not so sure the same exists . However can understand those who will make a case for this one .

I hate tips, but some dude gave me a tip on a horse called, Monopolist tommorow, Msw belmont fifth race, First time starter Gcauseway/Empire Maker /pletcher. This guy is all over this horse. Anybody know anything about him. I rarely take tips, but I have been struggling. F&M sprint I don't have clue about that race so I will just pass

My motto has always been. Don't listen to anyone when it comes to handicapping. We are all perfectly capable of losing without any help. lol Monopolist drew the 11 hole for his debut and its a mile. He's working well. A nice breezing from the gate bullet 1.00.1 He's laying 5 to 1. He cost $375,000.00. He's out of an Empire Maker mare. The 4, 9 and the 10 look good and have had races. You may get 7 to 1 unless the word has spread like a disease. I can't bet him. Jerkins and Motts horses look live. Good luck Rahman.

You could always use Sweet Lulu. Going to be a price and is cutting back off the second place finish to Close Hatches. Spread.

Thanks Lawrence I feel the same way lose my own money don't let anyone lose it for me. I am going to pass. You really like Close hatches as much as I like Goldencents? She is facing older for the first time. I wont be betting that race, will bet dirt mile that day and pick three( ending with dirt mile) I hope you win with her it should be a great race. Good luck

This is a special horse wishing all the best to her and Maryland connections. I knew she was special winning allowance and Stakes on Maryland circuit. In tough but its her shot she deserves it !

In the extremely rare in slightly interesting department, has a top three favorite for any breeders cup race ever prepped at Bowie?
Glenn Staubs More than 1 year ago
Maybe not horse but its got its own history like the rest of them. When you see this filly win your gonna say why don't all horses train at bowie lol

Goldencents ran up on 2 other horses while working and Pedroza had to angle him to the outside of them and just blew by. This guy is sitting on a big one.

Was never a fan to this point, but a mile should be right in his zone and appears well set up for it.

O'Brien was possibly worse even than the gold standard of bad racecalling: Scott Ferrall's call at GGF, which featured "and here comes the amble-lance."
Lawrence Macselwiney More than 1 year ago
Yeah it was bad. I don't know if it was as bad as Scott Ferrall's call, but it ranks up there with the all-time worst celebrity calls.

Ladies and Gentlemen, We direct your attention to the winner's circle where Dance To Bristol.........It's really that simple y'all.... She wins the F & M Sprint.....
Lawrence Macselwiney More than 1 year ago
Can't knock her. She's all race horse. She's going to need her A+ game to win this though and that might not be good enough.

Conan O'Brien's call of the 2nd race at Santa Anita was beyond bad. His attempt at comedy during the race just made him look even worse when he was calling the 5 in second the entire race when in fact it was the 7. He tried to sound like a 1930's radio announcer. Just pathetic.

Oxbow retired. Will stand for $20k at Taylor Made farms.
Lawrence Macselwiney More than 1 year ago
I read that as well. I was looking forward to his 4yr old campaign.
Horse Cents More than 1 year ago
That was never going to happen, it was only a matter of making the right stud deal. 20k seems high to me, but you can charge what you want when most of the covers will be for Calumet's own mares.
Lawrence Macselwiney More than 1 year ago
True. I thought it was high as well.

Sweet Lulu in a minor upset. Her second to Close Hatches will look even better after she wins this one.

She can only wish shed beat Bristol :)
