Breeders' Cup Day concert planned

Email

A lineup of pop musicians will perform between the races on the Saturday, Nov. 2, card of the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita this year, Breeders’ Cup announced Tuesday.

The musicians will perform in the infield at Santa Anita as part of an event that also will feature a beer garden and 30 Southern California-based food trucks, Breeders’ Cup said in a release. The infield can be accessed by anyone who purchases a ticket to the event.

The infield festival is the first significant attempt by Breeders’ Cup to put together an event featuring attractions unrelated to racing on one of its event days. Elsewhere in racing, Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore has been successful in drawing tens of thousands of non-racing fans to its infield on the day of Preakness Stakes by hiring pop musicians to play between the races and providing bottomless beer cups for $25.

The musicians who will perform include Kristin Chenoweth, Toni Braxton, Babyface, Macy Gray, Joan Osborne, Dame, and Jenny O., Breeders’ Cup said. The performances will start at 2:30 p.m. local time and run through 6:30 p.m., or approximately 30 minutes after the scheduled post of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, Breeders’ Cup said.

Thats what us handicappers need. More distractions for the participants. Beholders said she won't wash out if Flock of seagulls is carded.
