Prayer for Relief is coming off a troubled trip in the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Prayer for Relief, the winner of three graded stakes for 3-year-olds this summer, is likely to be pre-entered for the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5, trainer Bob Baffert said on Sunday.

Owned by Zayat Stables, Prayer for Relief was a troubled third in the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park on Oct. 16, racing in traffic on the inside and finishing three-quarters of a length behind the winner, Redeemed.

Prayer for Relief returned to Baffert’s stable at Santa Anita following that race. “He was pretty frisky when he came back,” Baffert said.

Earlier this year, Prayer for Relief won the Grade 3 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows, the Grade 2 West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer Park, and the Grade 2 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs. A colt by Jump Start, Prayer for Relief has won 5 of 9 starts and $1,009,500.

With Prayer for Relief, Baffert has 10 candidates for the Breeders’ Cup races, including Goodwood Stakes winner Game On Dude for the BC Classic.

His other hopefuls are Euroears and The Factor for the Sprint, Irish Gypsy for the Filly and Mare Sprint, Secret Circle for the Juvenile Sprint; Candrea for the Juvenile Fillies; Plum Pretty for the Distaff, Irrefutable for the Dirt Mile; and Drill for the Juvenile.

Sunday at Santa Anita, Secret Circle worked a half-mile in 46.40 seconds. Secret Circle won the Jack Goodman Stakes over six furlongs by 5 1/4 lengths at Santa Anita on Oct. 10 in his stakes debut.

Pre-entries are due on Monday. The Breeders’ Cup is scheduled to announce the list of pre-entries on Wednesday.
