Breeder's Cup SA trends and observations: 1. Toss out all east coast shippers like Pletcher, McGaughey, Asmussen, Brown, Mott. Most logical horses trained in NY, Ky, Can & Fla 2. Upgrade Cal trainers and SA based horses, plus local SA riders. 3. Pray and hope that the second and third tier Euro's don't embarrass North America's best entrants. 4. Declaration of War is as good as Galileo, on dirt, despite not changing leads. 5. Credit to US handicappers for making The Fugue the clear turf favourite, however British Racing Form numbers showed that 3 yo Magician was equal to or slightly better than The Fugue, yet paid $27, not so astute, that was a gift win and easy exacta if you looked at the num's. 6. Wise Dan or Goldikova? Mare won 3 times and has overachieved against Euro turf males in Europe, no NA horse can say that. 7. D Wayne Lukas, or Lazarus (invented by another poster), what's up with his form reversals in 2012 and 13 from decade long sub-par performances? Anyone else curious? 8. Keep the ban on lasix, please eliminate this drug culture and unfortunately learn to accept our breeding limitations to sprints,

The track bias at Santa Anita is a concern. The southern California horses have a big advantage.A change in venue is in order. There will be less east coast horses making the cross country journey in the future if the Breeders Cup doesn't rotate sites. Racing cannot be confined to sterile weather conditions. I would like to see a return to Churchill Downs , Belmont Park , Gulfstream Park and Woodbine. It is unfortunate that NBC chose their sports channel to televise all but one of the championship races. Breeders Cup 2013 was very exciting and all the races should have been available on network television to promote the racing industry.

WB is out since its poly. I vote Gulf.
John Murray More than 1 year ago
Meet you halfway, let's be positive. How about Woodbine is in, because of its terrific turf course and run the dirt races at Gulf where it is warmer.
John Murray More than 1 year ago
Forget to mention that Woodbine also has the lowest serious injury rate in NA, poly and turf.

Very disappointed that NBC televised all but the Classic on a secondary channel. Only true fans would make the effort to watch there. It seems unlikely that a non-fan would stumble onto the coverage. And why is it that NBC chooses to ignore the reality that betting is the driving force behind the Breeder's Cup? Very little coverage of the current odds before post time and especially during the race?

What about the classic call....seriously " A classic breeders cup classic" funny stuff
Senor Enrico More than 1 year ago
Boring, Boring Breeders Cup. Numerous repeat winners. No pick 3's paid over $1000 with fields of 12 and higher throughout. No competition. Sight needs to change every year!

Guess you didn't bet $20.00 to win on Magician $27.00 like I did! As for me, I'll only attend the BC at a track that has a civilized climate. You can have the cold, wind and rain of Belmont, CD and MTH.

Great races, great horses, great riders, great training jobs, now we look forward to the new year with New Year's day and the coming three year olds. Havana obviously doesn't want classic distances and there will be a slew of new comers from here on.

Looking for todd pletcher anybody seen him?

He jumped off the Verrazano.

What sucked was that NBC had one of the best race callers in the country calling the BC races at his home track and then they use some other clown to call the BC races on TV , what a stupid classless move by NBC
Jim Woodward More than 1 year ago
for sure. there is not a better race announcer in the business than trevor denman. for the biggest day of racing of the year, it is unconscionable to not have him calling the races
silver_charm More than 1 year ago
#Horseracing #BreedersCup #NBC Agree with the gist of your comments. When one is actually at the track, on BC day or any other day, you hear Trevor Denman calling the races, so for NBc to go to Collmus was maddening. We muted the Tv as soon as the horses approached the gate for each race and used the computer's feed from wherever. PLUS: the tv was at least 1 second behind actual time!
Tom More than 1 year ago
Totally disagree, Larry Collmus is number 2 in the country to Durkin, on the other hand when I hear a call by Denman it is like fingernails on chalk board to me. Ever since Denman took over in 2007 he has made miss-call after miss-call.
Robert More than 1 year ago
NBC always have their own caller. Collmus is their guy he took over for Durkin who did not want to do the BC anymore. I believe Denman does the live call at all the BC races he did them the last time they were at CD too.

Trevor missed the spill completely never even commented on it. Definitely off his fastball
Anonymous More than 1 year ago
Yes, the horse was right there in third. Then again if he comments on the fall he'd have to tone down his call of the stretch run.
Greg Rouch More than 1 year ago
Did you think Trevor sounded a bit nervous all day?
nick More than 1 year ago
Is it possible he intentionally didn't mention it, in order to avoid publicizing an unfortunate situation? I can't see him missing it altogether.
