Brazen Son ready for 2008 debut

EDMONTON, Alberta – Brazen Son, champion of his division in Alberta last year following victories in the Edmonton Juvenile and the Sales Stakes, will make his first start of 2008 in Friday’s featured seventh race.

The 6 1/2-furlong allowance for 3-year-olds who have not won a race other than maiden or claiming in 2008 drew an interesting group of eight, but Brazen Son will be tough to beat if he runs back to anything resembling his juvenile form.

Trainer Greg Tracy has put a strong series of works into Brazen Son, a son of Stormin Fever who will break from post 2 and can be expected to be on or near the early lead.

Smile N Wave, an improving gelding from Joan Petrowski’s shed row, rates a look in this spot. He comes off a troubled third to Bears Home Run, who was nominated to Saturday’s Canadian Derby, and his previous two victories in claiming races were strong efforts.

Devonaire Joe returns to Northlands after setting a track record in the one-mile Grande Prairie Derby on Aug. 10.

o Monday’s Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society summer yearling sale will be held at 11 a.m. at the AgriCom adjacent to Northlands Park.

One of the 18 yearlings to be sold is a filly by Lion Heart, a sire whose first foals are 2-year-olds of 2008 and include Azul Leon, winner of the Hollywood Juvenile and the recent Best Pal at Del Mar.
