ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Brattothecore mowed down the dueling favorites in the stretch under Jake Barton to post a mild upset in Sunday's $160,200 Ontario Lassie Stakes at Woodbine.

Brattothecore, who had won her only previous race in a $62,500 sprint, raced five lengths off the early pace in the mile and a sixteenth event for 2-year-old fillies. Favored Santerra and Deputy Cures Blues battled through rapid fractions, before Brattothecore commenced her rally on the far turn.

Brattothecore hit the front inside the eighth pole, and drew off two win by two and a quarter lengths over Deputy Cures Blues. Kabul closed from far back to edge Santerra for third in the six-horse field of Canadian-breds. The final time was 1:47.80 seconds.

"From the way she worked, I knew she would rate a bit," said Barton. "(The leaders) got farther away from me than I thought they would, but when I asked her, she just exploded."

Brattothecore ($11.30) earned $96,120 for the Jam Jar Racing Stable and trainer John Ross.
