Brady's Tomboy, with Scott Williams aboard, and Smile Again combine for a $696 exacta in the Duchess of York.

Despite winning the $48,000 Fall Classic Distaff in her last start, Brady’s Tomboy was dismissed by the bettors and paid $33.50 for her narrow win over 45-1 longshot Smile Again Theta in the $58,460 Duchess of York for fillies and mares at Northlands Park on Saturday. The 5-6 exacta paid $696.60.

With Scott Williams riding, Brady’s Tomboy dueled with Mia Isabel through a half mile in 48.32 seconds. She disposed of Mia Isabel after six furlongs in 1:14.08, held a two-length lead over Smile Again Theta at the top of the stretch, and was all out to win by a neck. Heavily favored Tempered Sapphire stalked the pace from the inside, looked like a threat at the top of the stretch, but hung and finished third.

“She never gave up,” said Williams. “I saw the shadows coming behind me but I knew I had a real racehorse underneath me.”

Trained by Dale Saunders, Brady’s Tomboy posted a final time of 1:48.07.

Petrowski gets win No. 1,000

Friday evening, trainer Joan Petrowski hit a milestone when Dynamo Run won the first race and paid $31.20. It was the 1,000th win of Petrowski’s career and she started on her second 1,000 when she won the seventh race with Tiny Giant. Both horses were ridden by Nela Mohammed.
