Bourbon County, with Alex Canchari aboard, wins the 10,000 Lakes Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths Friday night.

Bourbon County won the 10,000 Lakes Stakes for the second year in a row, leading from start to finish in the $60,000 race for Minnesota-bred sprinters Friday on opening night at Canterbury Park.

Second by a nose two years ago in the 10,000 Lakes, Bourbon County won the race by seven lengths in 2015 and was home by 1 3/4 lengths Friday, with Alex Canchari riding for trainer Bernell Rhone and owner Rake Farms. Bourbon County dueled on the lead with runner-up Hold for More, put his pace rival away at the top of the stretch, and won comfortably, getting six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10.32.

Bourbon County, who paid $5 to win as the favorite, is a 6-year-old Dehere gelding bred by Rake Farms’s principal, Scott Rake. He won for the eighth time in 15 starts.
