Borel conflict puts Dominguez on Super Saver

The connections of Super Saver have yet to decide which race on March 13 will mark his 2010 debut, but they have decided on who will ride him. Ramon Dominguez will take over as the rider of Super Saver, replacing Calvin Borel, who has a bit of a conflict that day. Borel is scheduled to ride 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra at Fair Grounds in her first start of the year.

Elliott Walden, the vice president and racing manager for WinStar Farm, which owns Super Saver, on Monday said Dominguez would get the mount. But as to whether Dominguez will be traveling to the Tampa Bay Derby in Florida or the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park, that has yet to be determined.

Super Saver won twice in four starts last year, including the at Churchill Downs on Nov. 28, which marked his final start of the year. That was the only time Borel rode him.

Dominguez rode Super Saver to his only other victory, a seven-length romp against maidens at Belmont Park in his second lifetime start.
