Bop wins at Meadowlands

Bop inched away from Rudirudy near the wire to win the $100,000 Thomas Edison Stakes before a meet-opening crowd of 13,529 Monday at The Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J.

Ridden by Phil Teator, Bop stalked the pace while running third on the turn, caught and dueled the pacesetting Rudirudy starting at the furlong pole, and pulled away to win by a neck. Texas Glitter, the 8-5 choice, pressed the pace and finished another three lengths back in third.

Bop ran the five furlongs in 56.05 over a sloppy main track. It was his fifth win in six starts this year.

The race was scheduled for the turf course, but two days of rain forced all grass races to the main track.

In other stakes on the card:

* Run Production gradually wore down Down Play to win the $50,000 Comet for 2-year-olds at six furlongs by a half-length.

* Unrestrained ($6.20) ran down Run for Joy in the stretch to win the $50,000 Prismatical for 3-year-old and up fillies and mares.

* Trump Marina romped to a 9 1/2-length victory over runner-up Mazoolian Ghost in the $50,000 Paterson for 3-year-olds. Trump Marina ran the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.45 and paid $4.60.
