Bookmaking charge in Toronto

An alleged illegal bookmaking business operating out of one of the Woodbine Entertainment Group's Champions teletheaters has been shut down following an extensive three-month investigation.

In a news release Thursday, the Ontario Racing Commission said Man Fai Hung, 43, of Scarborough, Ontario, had been charged with engaging in bookmaking. Hung was released by York Region Police for an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice on May 4.

The arrest followed an investigation of Hung's activities at the Select Winners Lounge in Markham, Ontario. The facility, though part of Woodbine's teletheater network, is independently owned.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be pending, according to the racing commission.
