Bonus program to replace Tattersalls Millions series

Tattersalls will launch a new bonus scheme exclusively for Book 1 graduates of the auction company’s October yearling sale to eventually replace its Tattersalls Millions series.

Under the new plan, known as the Book 1 Bonus, participating owners will receive a $38,033 bonus (25,000 British pounds) if their 2015 Book 1 purchase wins a Class 2, 3, or 4 maiden race for 2-year-olds in Great Britain, or an open 2-year-old maiden race in Ireland.

Entry into the program will require a single payment of $1,522 (1,000 British Pounds) by the yearling’s buyer or new owner. The number of qualifying races in Great Britain and Irelend is expected to exceed 300.

"The new scheme represents a very significant financial commitment by Tattersalls and the prospect for owners of earning prize money in excess of £30,000 for winning any of more than 300 British and Irish two-year-old maiden races is hugely enticing,” said Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony. "Prize money is the lifeblood of the sport and we are proud to be introducing a scheme that looks set to capture the imagination of owners, trainers and consignors, and that will launch the celebrations for the 250th anniversary year of the founding of Tattersalls."

The plan replaces the Tattersalls Millions series; a set of five races worth a combined $1,976,089 (1.3 million British pounds) open to 2-year-old and 3-year-old Book 1 graduates of the Tattersalls October sale. The final race of the series will be 2016 Tattersalls Millions 3-year-old Trophy, a $304,071 (200,000 British pounds) race held in April during the Craven Meeting at Newmarket Racecourse.
