Bond Queen looks a solid investment

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Bond Queen looks like the one they'll have to catch in the $50,000 Langley Handicap at Hastings Saturday. The 6 1/2-furlong feature for 3-year-old fillies drew five horses, including the 2005 Fantasy winner, Langara Lass.

Bond Queen led from start to finish to win the Supernaturel Stakes April 22 and was made the 1-2 favorite when she shipped to Stampede Park to run in the Mount Royal Stakes May 7. She finished third in the Mount Royal, which was won by Kaylee's Magic, and according to her trainer, Terry Jordan, she didn't have any excuses.

"She just got outrun by a very nice filly who was the horse of the year in Alberta last year," he said.

Bond Queen will be ridden by Pedro Alvarado.

Langara Lass, trained by Dave Forster, won three stakes and was easily the best 2-year-old filly at Hastings last year. She's coming off of a third-place finish to Bond Queen in the Supernaturel and

figures move forward in her second start of the year. Langara Lass doesn't have a lot of early speed and she'll need some help up front in order to catch Bond Queen.

Excited Miss finished second to Bond Queen in the Supernaturel and that was the first loss of her short career. Trained by Bard Heads, Excited Miss won a 3 1/2-furlong maiden special weight race in her debut last July and the B.C. Cup Debutante Aug. 1. Then she was turned out for the remainder of the year.
