Bold Rosetti fresh and ready

Jason Teague has put together a strong card on Sunday to close out his first weekend on the job as new racing secretary at Northlands Park. Either of the last two races, which are both at 3 1/2 furlongs, could pass as a feature race.

Bold Rosetti looks like the one to beat in the seventh race, a $30,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds and up that drew six horses.

The eighth race, a first-level allowance race for 3-year-old fillies, appears to be a wide-open event. Curls and Pearls and Fun Runner are stakes placed, but they both appear to want more distance.

Bold Rosetti, who has excellent speed, has been off since he finished second to multiple stakes winner Teagues Fight in the $49,000 Sales Stakes at Stampede Park over a year ago. Trained by Ernie Keller, Bold Rosetti won his initial start of the season in both 2007 and 2008. His works this spring indicate that he is ready for a big effort despite the long layoff.

Rickey Walcott rides Bold Rosetti.

Walcott also rides a very live looking Viva Slew in the eighth. Trained by Monica Russell, Viva Slew showed very good speed when she won a 3 1/2-furlongs maiden special weight race at Northlands in her debut last September. She hasn't raced since, but her sharp four-furlong move in 48 seconds on April 25 is a good indication that she is ready for another strong performance.

Calmcoolncollected is coming off of a 13-length win over $5,000 maidens at Turf Paradise on March 22. She earned a 67 Beyer Speed Figure in that race, which is the highest in the field. This is a big step up in class, yet she does have a conditioning edge.
