Bold Artic Ice takes Rainbow Connection


Bold Artic Ice ($15.40), who scored her maiden victory at Woodbine last time out, doubled up in lucrative fashion in Sunday's $125,000 Rainbow Connection at Fort Erie.

The Rainbow Connection, a five-furlong turf race for Ontario-sired fillies and mares, attracted a field of nine and Bold Artic Ice rallied to score by 2.75 lengths under Gerry Olguin.

Spanish Decree finished second, with Dressed for Action third and the favored Miss Crissy checking in sixth.

Bold Artic Ice, a 3-year-old by Bold Executive out of Majestic Allure, is owned by Linda Mason and trained by Robbie Martin. She collected $75,000 to bring her career bankroll to $189,418.

The final time, over "good" going, was :58.55.

* Major Zee ($7.90) became a stakes winner at age 11 in Sunday's supporting feature, going wire-to-wire to score by 3.75 lengths in the Parnitha over five furlongs of turf.

The Parnitha, an in-house stakes restricted to horses who have started at least three times at the meeting, marked the 66th career start for Major Zee, an Ontario-bred gelding by Dayjur out of Zadracarta.

Baltic Prince finished second, with Reverse Psychology third in the field of seven.

Owned by Eldorado Farm, trained by Mark Fournier and ridden by Neal Poznansky, Major Zee picked up $36,000 to bring his career bankroll to $325,983. The final time was :58.12.

Rare Friends, the morning-line favorite, was scratched.
