Bodemeister gets first winner

Bodemeister, one of the most exciting stallions in an exciting class of freshman sires for 2016, was represented by his first winner on Wednesday, when Bode’s Dream won a maiden special weight at Gulfstream by 3 3/4 lengths on the front end.

Bode’s Dream, a $300,000 Keeneland September yearling, is trained by Todd Pletcher for St. Elias Stable. She is out of the Grade 2-winning Smoke Glacken mare Frolic’s Dream. Pletcher said the filly is targeting the Astoria Stakes at Belmont Park for her next outing.

Bodemeister, by Empire Maker, won the Arkansas Derby by 9 1/2 lengths in just his fourth start, then finished second to I’ll Have Another in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Standing at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky., he has been highly regarded since entering stud, finishing as the commercial market’s leading first-year yearling sire of 2015.

Bodemeister is out of the Grade 3-winning and Grade 1-placed Storm Cat mare Untouched Talent, who has been confirmed in foal to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah in his first season at stud.
