Bob Stories seeks record 15th win

AUBURN, Wash. - Bob Stories will be vying for a place in the Emerald Downs record book in Friday's feature, a 5 1/2-furlong test for $10,000 to $8,000 claimers that has drawn a field of eight.

A 9-year-old trained by George Colello Sr., Bob Stories has posted 14 career victories at Emerald, one behind the track record held by Fleet Pacific.

Bob Stories won 3 of 10 starts here last season, defeating $5,000 foes in May and $8,000 rivals in June and August. He has not raced since Emerald closed in September, but he has been working steadily since early March and will get in light at 115 pound with Gallyn Mitchell. Bob Stories is the only member of the field who was entered for the $8,000 claiming tag.

Bob Stories might yield the favorite's role to Tickled Purple, a winner at the $15,000 claiming level here last season. Tickled Purple, a 5-year-old trained by Terry Gillihan, tuned up for Friday's race with a one-mile turf try at Bay Meadows on March 13. Tickled Purple did not handle the new surface, however, and finished last of six after bearing out on the first turn. Nate Chaves rides.

Also dangerous is Personal Plan, who won his first start here last year, going 5 1/2 furlongs against $15,000 rivals. Though he quickly tailed off and raced only twice more at the meeting, Personal Plan is proven fresh, and he has worked forwardly for trainer Bud Klokstad, who has named Mick Ruis to ride.
