Bluegrass Cat to stand at WinStar for $50K

Bluegrass Cat, the winner of the Grade 1 Haskell Stakes who also ran second in some of this year's biggest 3-year-old races, will stand for $50,000 in 2007 at WinStar Farm near Lexington, the farm announced late Monday.

Bluegrass Cat, a son of Storm Cat out of the A.P. Indy mare She's a Winner, was retired after finishing second to Bernardini in the Grade 1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 26. Following the race, trainer Todd Pletcher said that X-rays had revealed a non-displaced fracture in his right hind pastern bone.

Bluegrass Cat, who had a record of 5 wins and 4 second-place finishes from 11 starts, was raced by his breeder, WinStar. His career earnings, which included a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, were $1,756,280.
