Blue Sailor sets five-furlong track record

Blue Sailor set a track record and foiled stablemate Hesa Big Star's bid for a three-peat in Saturday's closing-day feature at Atlantic City Race Course.

Making his first start since early September, the 6-year-old Blue Sailor ($4.60) cruised to a three-length victory in the $51,800 Tony Gatto Dream Big Stakes, running the five furlongs on firm turf in 55.27 seconds.

The old track record of 55.86 seconds was set by Hostility on May 13, 2004.

It was the 13th win in 35 lifetime starts for Blue Sailor, who was ridden by Harry Vega for trainer Howard Wolfendale.

Cardashi, who beat Blue Sailor by 1 1/2 lengths when they met last August in the $200,000 Pennsylvania Governor's Cup at Penn National, had to settle for second this time, a neck in front of the 8-year-old Hesa Big Star, who had won the last two runnings of the Dream Big for Wolfendale.
