Blue Sailor by a nose in Mo Bay

In a ding-dong battle between late-closing turf sprint specialists, the 5-1 Blue Sailor edged the 8-5 True to Tradition by a nose to win the $55,000 Mo Bay for 3-year-olds and up Saturday at Delaware Park.

A 4-year-old gelded son of Northern Afleet, Blue Sailor improved his turf sprint record to 6 wins in 10 starts. True to Tradition now has 3 seconds and 2 wins in 5 turf sprint starts.

Cooper County and Secretintelligence vied on the lead from the bell to deep stretch when Blue Sailor, five wide under Anna Napravnik, and True to Tradition, four wide under Abel Castellano Jr., came roaring by in tandem. Secretintelligence held on for third, another neck behind.

Trained by Howard Wolfendale for a partnership, Blue Sailor covered the five furlongs on firm turf in 56.76 seconds and paid $12.80. The exacta returned $27.40 for $2.

Mobo, the 5-2 morning-line favorite who would have made his turf sprint debut for trainer Tony Dutrow, was scratched. Cavallo Pazzo, 5 for 10 lifetime and making his turf sprint debut for Dutrow, finished fifth in the field of seven.
