Black Swan Stakes preview

Fairplex Park - Race 10
Black Swan Stakes
1 1/16 Miles
2-year-old fillies
Purse $65,000.

It will be interesting to see if SWISS ROSE handles the tight turns at Fairplex, but she kept solid company earlier this season at Hollywood and Del Mar, and is simply the most accomplished filly in the race. She showed a new stalking dimension when just missing in the Generous Portion last time out, and projects for a similar trip while racing in the clear on Wednesday.
MISS MELISSA loses high-percentage rider David Flores to the top selection, and only had five days to recover from her runner-up effort in the Bustles & Bows. She opened up a clear lead on the final turn that day after battling hard with another pace rival, but failed to change leads in the stretch, and succumbed to a perfect-trip winner.
KIMMY POTTER needed eight attempts to break her maiden, but she did so in game fashion over this surface, and is bred to handle the added distance. She draws an advantageous inside post, and has the tactical speed to sit a nice pace-tracking, ground-saving trip.
SPENDITALLBABY is the lone multi-winner, but those victories came on grass. She raced evenly in her only main track appearance on dirt at Del Mar, but is plenty fast from the gate, and should be prominent in the early stages.
