WINNING POINT is a lightly-raced filly with lots of upside potential, and she didn't have an easy trip in the Grade 2 Comely last time out. She broke awkwardly from the gate, and raced in and among horses going into the turn, but still came running once angled out for room in the stretch. The Black-Eyed Susan will be Winning Point's first start around two turns, but her sire Point Given won the Preakness at 1 3/16 miles, and the dam is related to several stamina influences. Winning Point projects for a good pace-tracking, ground-saving trip on Friday, and may offer a bit of value as well.
FEE FI FO FUM's lone career victory came on turf, but she didn't have an easy trip when third in the Grade 2 Bonnie Miss two starts back. She may have been a bit too close to the pace last time out in the Comely, and could revert to stalk and pounce tactics here. MOON CATCHER seeks her third straight win, and could be ready for a big move forward after pairing up Beyer tops. She has excellent tactical speed, but will get a class test as she tries graded foes for the first time.
BARONESS THATCHER will probably be among the early leaders, but she has a tendency to get rank and uncontrollable in the early stages of her races. She'll need to relax better if she is to successfully navigate this demanding distance. PANTY RAID broke her maiden in gate-to-wire fashion over a speed-favoring track at Saratoga last year, and her best races in 2007 have come over Polytrack. You have to respect anything the Pletcher barn puts out on the track, but she may be an underlay.
