Biofuel impresses in comeback

Biofuel, Canada's co-champion 2-year-old filly last year along with Negligee, won her season debut with an impressive wide rally at Woodbine in the s.

Biofuel ($4.80) trailed the five-horse field heading into the turn as favored Wild Forest Cat set moderate fractions of 22.90 and 46.02 seconds in the six-furlong sprint for 3-year-old fillies.

Biofuel commenced her bid inside the quarter pole under jockey Eurico Da Silva and hit the front at the eighth pole before drawing away for a two-length tally in 1:10.01. Sharp Secretary outran Tee Game for second, and Wild Forest Cat faded to fourth.

"She has so much power," said Da Silva. "When I asked her, she accelerated. Believe me. I had a lot more horse under me."

Trained by Reade Baker, Biofuel banked $90,000 for owner/breeder Brereton Jones.

It was Biofuel's first start since her troubled fourth-place finish Nov. 6 in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita, during which she was sideswiped in the stretch by Negligee.
